Remaking Cities Institute Carnegie Mellon University

 Stephen Quick is an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University teaching the first semester design studio in the Masters of Urban Design program. Steve returned to teach in the Urban Design program in 2010, having taught in the Bachelor and Master of Architecture programs as an Adjunct Associate Professor between 1980 and 1994. His design studio teaching has focused on the respect of design as a civic responsibility, participatory urban design community projects and mixed-use buildings in an urban context, and the role that buildings and communities contribute to creating memorable places and the public realm.


Michael Baker International

Kirsten Compitello is an experienced Urban Designer and EcoDistrict AP with a focus on community engagement, placemaking, and town planning. She uses her design and illustration skills to create and market a vision for the future potential of neighborhoods and communities. She works to promote equitable access across cities through participatory engagement, smart street design, and sustainable policies. She works on local, national, and federal planning and transportation projects at Michael Baker’s Urban Design Studio in Pittsburgh. Her previous experience with Depiction Illustration and Urban Design Associates included the preparation of Design Guidelines, neighborhood revitalization plans, new town master plans, downtown strategic plans, Transit Oriented Development, and more. She has participated in numerous charrettes both nationally and abroad, and is particularly passionate about public participation as a part of the design process. She also applies her education as an architect to visualize plans and growth opportunities in 3D.  She completed an B.Architecture from the University of Notre Dame and M.A. in Social Anthropology from Columbia University, and she is an involved member of CNU Midwest and ULI Pittsburgh.
